It was my first fantasy read. I pushed through book one, it was okay and then read book two. Book two is now one of my all time favorite books, and it made me realize book was was just okay on purpose. But yeah you love it or hate it. For what it’s worth I’ve reread the series twice this year so I could feel all the feels lol
