I do not understand this writer’s priorities with this book :/

The contents are fascinating, but the writing too dry to be engaging.

I can’t get a good grip on the main character’s real feelings and I can’t tell if this is intended to be unreliable narrator or not. Also, the voice of the main character feels too modern for the 1400s. Was autograph a word back then?
