I wanted to read a horror book, and this came recommended as such.
I didn’t, however, seek out a book about a woman who is a wanna be L.A. socialite who prefers Black, Latinos, and gay peoples company and who regrets throwing a 4th of July party so she wears a Juneteenth tee-shirt in protest.
I understand setting up a story, but this is unnecessary.

Her son Corey is talking about an experience in school and how he believes the girls look at him: “Wow, imagine that, a real Negro.”
We get it. You hate white people and think they’re all racist.
Frankly, I am unsure why I am still reading this. I was looking forward to a magic/voodoo book for my Halloween month read but I’m so tired of this projection of racism.
