Book is a little outdated, the gaps are not as big as when the book was written. Or maybe I was just fortunate to have had managers who appreciated autonomy. Mastery and purpose is very much dependent on oneself but it is likely that the environment can promote or kill such things. In the end the company’s/manager’s expectations of you and your expectations of yourself must align. Travelling against wind is hard.

Better to keep tasks big, never micro control. Try to tie the job to a bigger picture, something meaning, a vision. And let them do it their own way.

Starting to think there are more problems in management and the reward system at work. Perhaps even the general trend here in China. Seems that people are so used to getting instructions that they don’t know how to think for themselves. This book is making me even sure that as leaders we shouldn’t be directing each detail but instead give the team a vision and guide them to lead their own projects.
