The image Mr. Freud presents is that of an affable bon vivant, over fond of drink yet never unpleasantly drunk, ever available with a witty remark, and a hard-working family man. But even he cannot hide all the traces of a darker personality completely.

It is an amusing autobiography, especially Freud's tales of his life in the restaurant trade and the British Army. However, it is difficult to laugh along with him when one knows the accusations made against him after his death.
