I am really learning a lot, but for a book published by a University Press, this is way too gimmicky. I don't mean the subject: historians can write about lurid themes. But sometimes, it is unclear whether the author actually consulted sources from the Dutch Golden Age when he makes certain claims. Other "facts" are presented out of the blue and may just be his opinions. We have youtube for opinions, no?

You probably knew that men liked to wear their hair long and their brard in mustaches and goatees in the 17th Century, but did you know that all other body hair was manscaped? That's right, these guys had a whole entire book on how to get rid of unwanted armpit, chest and groin hair!
