I was saddened by Volta's words when Rowan lashed out about Goddard. Rowan finally said out loud that he was a murder and they way Volta responded was depressing. "Yeah, but even if that's true, what can anyone do about it" (270) Volta knows that hes in the wrong, that the old scythes are right but he feels as if hes out of options. Volta knows that hes a murderer but he thinks he has no choice.Its really sad to see.

I think one of the most emotional parts for me was Volta's death.It was hinted how he had felt about Goddard but the events that happened in that toniest classroom truly showed him breaking."What are we, Rowan. What the hell are we? It can't be what we're supposed to be."(386)This right here really showed how Volta truly felt, and at the same time he knew he couldn't do anything besides ending himself.

Something that intrigued me was the way Rowan described pain after Goddard and his crew had beaten him. He began asking what they had done to him. "It was horrible. Overwhelming. Rowan had never experienced such pain-never knew it could even exist."(214) Because the way nanites instantly heal wounds, no one has ever seen pain. What is familiar to us is new and beyond excruciating to them.

I was already not fond of Scythe Goddard and his crew but even despite that this still shocked me. It was when Scythe Rand said that the one who earns the ring should glean the other. But this part was even more shocking: "As is my prerogative as the High Bade... whosoever shall prevail will be required to glean the other upon receipt of their ring."(154).This shows the corruption in the Scythedom and Scythe Goddard.

I felt disgusted when Scythe Goddard and his ways of mass gleaning. He and his circle of scythes would go to areas with a lot of people and just kill them all and enjoy it. "Clearly you are the alpha of this plane... I will allow you to choose the order in which these good folk shall be gleaned." It represents how despicable this man is in how he seeks pleasure in toying with these people who are about to die.

I was really annoyed when Citra yelled at Scythe Farady. It was a really reckless move, thankfully he didn't care. If she did that to the wrong scythe though, she could have ended up being killed. "Citra was well known for her temper...tonight was no exception" (p.10). This proves that it was a bad move and even when she looked back on it she realized it was.
