"poor Imogen sat homesick and forlorn, feeling left alone on
one side of all the pleasant things, scarcely realizing that it was her own choice and
doing"
Of course, it was her own fault. It wasn't that the rest of the company thought she was a horrible, boring, ugly person whom they didn't really want to be with.

“It is a case of Mahomet and mountain. You and papa and Katy and Dorry have got to come out here any way,—the rest of us are here; and it is clearly impossible that all of us should go on to Burnet to see you married"
Besides, why would the Youngs want their parents and siblings to be there, or why would the Youngs' parents want to be at their children's wedding? Who cares about those Brits?

So, it's OK for an American to prefer the place of her birth over other sites, but not for others? It's OK to think England is a horrible place, but not OK to think the USA is? It's OK to laugh at Imogen's old dress and hair and judge her as "quite a dreadful little person" when all you have discussed are things she knows nothing of. Imogen is horrid when she thinks like this, but Rose thinking the same is a darling.

"...under the colossal Liberty, whose outstretched arm seemed to point to the dim rich mass of roofs and towers and spires of the city which lay beyond."
Er... she points up. Is this some other "Liberty" miss Woolsey is thinking about? I know she was just 4 years old when this book was published, and perhaps miss Woolsey never saw it, but...

"...he was born in Scotland and she in Wales...”
“Do you mean, then, that they are English, after all?” cried Imogen

Imogen would NEVER have called a Scotsman and a Welsh woman English.

I suppose Miss Woolsey received quite a bit of US bashing after Katy's adventures in Europe, so she decided to write all the prejudices she heard in Imogen.

"You are so infatuated about America, Lion, that I can’t trust your opin-
ion at all.”
Yes, exactly. Now, why didn't she ask Clover?

So... apparently, this one is to bash Brits.
“Ah!” said the Squire, as he filled his glass with amber-hued cider,—“you don’t get anything so good as this to drink over in America, Lionel.”
“Indeed we do, sir. Wait till you taste our lemonade made with natural sodawater.”
