Chameleon people pleaser meets reserved protector! I love both characters for how they’ve been hurt by the world and how they’re going to grow.

P 93 — Imani is becoming too overbearing on Olivia’s life with her warnings and schedules

Toni is walled to protect her emotions from showing and feeling that hurt again — p 70
Olivia’s testimony arc seems to be foreshadowing the message that someone hurt her AND she didn’t deserve it, p 106
Each sees the other in a way that they aren’t able to see themselves:Toni looking at Olivia sees someone fearless and true, p 111
Olivia looking at Toni sees someone beautiful, clever, and collected p 119
P 133 — playing music together and falling for each other in such a sweet and original way
P 198-219 — Impressed at how the fun romance and music plot is made deeper with the inclusion of gun violence and sexual harassment for the characters to deal with. Very real and terrifying things that happen to teenagers all the time, and will be impactful to see how they pull through
P 244 — devastating watching them return to their walled up selves
Ok wow I really appreciate how Olivia’s selfishness was called out by Imani, because that teenage all consuming love often breaks friendships too. p 260
P 298 when Olivia has her realization about wanting Toni but not needing her, it’s a good reality check from the love at first sight way the book has been going so far
