This is Gides attempt to convince his mother and the world that he should marry his first cousin Madeleine. He draws a lot of inspiration from Flaubert, Geothe and Schopenhauer. Very compelling and alluring descriptions of inner conflict as well as nature romanticism. Reminds me of Lispector even though they have very different outlooks on God and life. Promising!
