Coming straight off a book that frequently doesn't use the past perfect tense where it's needed, I find it especially annoying that this is another such book, to an even greater extent. Also comma splices.

You'd think someone who makes their living as a writer would know how to use the past perfect tense, know not to comma splice, know the difference between peddling and pedaling and who's and whose and (especially in a superhero context) phased and fazed. But no.
