bending nails by jerry dennis-
while the author showed how, despite the toxic atmosphere, work allowed them to build stronger bonds with each other & nature
i wish there was on more the problematic views and toxic masculinity expressed throughout.
“I knew that every one of us was thinking the same thoughts: wings, flight, south—and here I stand anchored to the earth.”

the language of the trees by holly wren spaulding
as a fellow poetry & tree lover, this piece was so beautiful. the author’s admiration could practically be felt through the pages.
“after a few seasons, this ephemeral poem will have to be disintegrated into the natural landscape.”

edge by marcia aldrich -
enjoyed this neural YET convincing approach to their thoughts on a local deer hunting issue (which could be extended further)
“Maybe the deer reintroduce me to parts of myself I thought I had lost or thwarted—a capacity for receiving a vibration of beauty that rearranged the writing of my brain.”

nature is primary, wonder inborn by stephanie mills -
an inspiring piece on preservation and being connected to the wonder of nature.
loved learning more about the authors mentioned & it was a more uplifting perspective on the human effect on life.
“There could be no greater purpose than rescuing what we can of the earth’s biodiversity.” <33

before the garden is extinct - alison swan
basking in the lingering warmth from this
( what a relatable pov!! )
“And so there we were: two mothers, one crouched and awed, the other trotting and intent, out in the wide open under a noonday sky, surrounded on all sides by the human-built world… I desperately wanted a photograph.”
co-existing w/ animals in nature is something so simple but entirely sublime.
