Good so far, if a bit simple. I get the feeling that Grisham is trying to paint his protagonist Jake Brigance as somewhat slimy; his love of the spotlight is overriding his feelings about his client’s situation. Maybe it’ll be a whole “and this is how Protagonist got his humility” thing. Hope not! Too simplistic!
