Chapter VI - About one o’clock in the morning we halted for sleep . All of us were pretty well exhausted , and I set the alarm in my wrist - watch for three o’clock and slept with my head upon it .

George Hill is an amazing chap. He's just talked the Bolsheviks into handing the Romanian Crown Jewels over to him, so he can transport them back to Romania. This a first-hand account: incredible.

Military thing, I'm told: all to do with dark hours sentry duty when out in the field. It helps get your brain fully-awake before you take over the duty.
