Something that I instantly noticed in the first couple pages was what something seemed off about the pirate captain. According to Jim Hawkins, he just showed up one day and stayed at the inn even after his money ran out. "...had none of the appearance of a man who sailed before the mast; but seemed more like a mate or skipper."(10) He does not even look fit to be a captain, so is he really one?

One moment that made me laugh was when Jim had encountered a "strange figure". He saw some kind of creature and at first couldn't tell what it was, and it began chasing him. "... to my wonder and confusion, threw himself on his knees and held out his clasped hands in
supplication."(90) Even though just a moment ago Jim was being chased by him, he thought himself on the ground begging for mercy.

Something that shocked me was that there was a point where Silver was serving under someone else instead of being captain. He said that his captain's name was Flint so he was not always a leader. "No, not I,' said Silver. 'Flint was Cap'n"(67). This shows Silver's early days as a pirate which is nice to see because it provides some background for the character.

Something that I find weird was that the leader of the men breaking into the inn was blind. I'm not sure if he was chosen or elected himself but their leader can't even see. Hes also the same blind man from a couple chapters ago. "Down to the door' he cried. Ay, ay, sir! answered two or three." (33)
Hes going around barking orders and is leading them while being blind; its actually kind of impressive.
