One conflict was when each kid had to join the hunters or stay in the old group. Jack and the hunters split off leaving Ralph and the others to struggle. Conflict hit a high point when Jack said "Me and my hunters, we're living along the beach by a flat rock. We hunt and feast and have fun. If you want to join my tribe come and see us" (140). It could have split up the group because they can't survive without food.

One shocking thing was when the boys threatened Robert as a game after killing the boar. While looking for the beast, they found & killed it, then chatted about who's credit it was & different injuries before "Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of frenzy," (114) and "The chant rose ritually, as the last moment of a dance or hunt," (114). This was surprising as they almost killed him as a joke.

One important part is when Jack disobeys the rules. The boys are struggling with issues like keeping order. During a meeting, people have to be reminded that they mustn't speak if someone has the conch. This culminates when Jack responds to Ralph and says "Bollocks to the rules! We're strong- we hunt!" (91). This shows how some are starting to lash out against their already weak leaders which may be important later.
