Furthermore, in the book it states "there is no contact between the Scythedom and the Thunderhead." However, I learned that Citra could avoid the rule by dying since she wouldn't be a scythe's apprentice temporarily. I predict that the Thunderhead will later help Citra greatly.

In this past chapter, I completely changed my view on Scythe Goddard. I saw him as an immoral scythe that gleans dishonorably. However, now I find his methods, perspectives, and values to be admirable. For example, he removed Rowan's ability to heal and be painless because "Without the threat of suffering, we can't experience true joy."(244) I altered my opinion of Scythe Goddard along with learning a life lesson.

One part that was frightening was Rowan finding out that Scythe Goddard had selected him to be his apprentice because Scythe Goddard has a reputation of an unjust scythe. He doesn't fit Scythe Faraday's standard that an adequate scythe shouldn't enjoy gleaning. He also "gleaned an entire airplane"(129) and committed mass gleanings which isn't ethical. Thus, Rowan being selected by Scythe Goddard is petrifying.

One part that was interesting was the paradox of the Scythes profession. They reinforce it multiple times such as Scythe Faraday demanding Rowan and Citra to to kill the woman in order to test their morality. This paradox states that "Those who wish to have the job should not have it... and those who would most refuse to kill are the only ones that should." Therefore, a perfect scythe wouldn't want to ever be one.
