Really enjoying this literary bridge between ancient, mostly pagan mythology and christianity. The Church appears to use ghost stories as moral directives, as well as frighteners to its congregations, giving a clear warning not to cross the papacy, otherwise unbelievable misery and torture awaits you in the afterlife.
May not work so well today, but would probably have had a strong effect on the Medieval mind.
