This book is pulling no punches. Putin's Russia is an ultranationalist imperialist empire bent on self-aggrandisement and Van Herpen has alllll the receipts. My favourite kind of academic text: informative, clear, and short, with flashes of ironic humour and no nonsense at all.

Sounds like a great book, Suzannah. I saw another with the same name but gave it a pass as it didn't look that good from the blurb, bit hastily written to fill in the news cycle that demanded books on Ukraine. But this does appear to be serious and well researched, from what you're posting.
