Heart-wrenching story, lovingly written, highlighting young 5-year-old Rosalie whose father is away at war. They receive letters, illustrated, from the father but you learn that the mother is making up what is written, so as not to reveal what is really happening to her husband. Rosalie learns to read, unbeknownst to the mother, and reads the letters. All children are victims when there is a war.
