The way Barrett describes the sailors makes me think Ithaka is poor "...a large bronze pitcher to pour water over our hands. As the water splashed on the floor, I glanced at our guests, but they seemed unimpressed that such a valuable object was in such humble use" (Barrett 25). I wonder if the sailors aren't impressed by the pitcher being made out of bronze because that's the norm or if bronze isn't valuable anymore

I wonder what would make King Nestor kill Telemachos and his friends as well as the wood nymph. "'He'll find some reason to kill you,' Polydora said. 'He'll say you attacked Pisastratos or something'" (Barrett 200). It makes me think that he doesn't have honor as a king.

A character I find interesting is Polydora. At first she stows away on the ship because she doesn't want to stay at Ithakos but then she says she wants to go back after a little facing bit of difficulty. "'I should never have left.... I know that now'" (Barret 198). It makes me wonder why she left

I am angry that Pisistratos treats Telemachos like a guest and a friend and then steals his most valuable stuff. "'...[W]e'renot in my father's kingdom... we are fellow travelers now, not host and guest'... My precious iron was gone" (Barrett 152-3). It doesn't make sense to me why greed makes people do such things.

When Homeros walks in and the people fall silent, I wonder if that's because he's blind or if it's because they respect him. "'I wager you've never heard a singer like Homeros.' Nobody spoke as the boy stopped and the man reached forward, feeling for the stool" (Barrett 142). The way he makes Telemachos envision the music makes me confused about why they are quiet.

When Telemachos and Polydora's captor says they are going to be sacrificed but nothing happens leaves an ominous feeling. "'Two offerings, sir,' said the deep voice... Silence, except for grunts and then shuffling footsteps" (Barrett 116-7). I wonder if they're going to be freed by their captors or if something else is going to happen.

I wonder why the Triton didn't attack Telemachos when he accidentally cut it: "He bellowed as I missed and snagged his skin... drawing a little blood again"(Barrett 91-92). It makes me wonder if it couldn't have gotten the net off itself or if it just wanted someone else to do it for it.

When Telemachos and Brax were walking to Damon's house it made me a little scared when Damon didn't whistle back: "I put two fingers in my mouth and whistled the greeting that Damon and I had used ever since we were small. I strained my ears but heard no answering shrill. The place was oddly quiet"(Barrett 79). Thankfully Damon turned out to be fine but it still was worrying.

It really makes me mad how the men of Ithaka think they can make Telemachos' mother marry one of them. "'Tomorrow [Penelopeia will] choose one of us-or, if she doesn't, we'll do it ourselves'" (Barrett 72). I don't think they have the right to do that.

The way Barrett describes how happy the people are to see a ship makes me wonder how long it’s been since they last have been visited. “‘A ship?’ Her lips went white” (Barrett 11). When the author says her (Telemachus’ mother) lips went white it means she must be either worried or really excited.
