For the first time in a decade, I won't be voting in the Goodreads Choice Awards.
They're not the BEST [insert genre here] of the year.
They're the most POPULAR books of the year.
Books on TBR shelves count towards what gets nominated.
You don't have to have read a book to vote for it.
And only titles published in the US within the date range are eligible.
Hard pass.

I think I only voted in the horror category, because that was the only one I had read more than one book in and they were all very good (horror for the last few years has been amazing). But horror is still kind of a niche area, and I want to give it love. Plus I will vote for T. Kingfisher at any given opportunity. The fantasy selections were...kind of crap

This is a belated response to your post, but I am sooooooo with you. I skipped a lot of categories. Usually there's something I feel good about voting for, even if it's not my fave, but this time around the nominees were disappointing.
I did feel good about voting for True Biz in the fiction category.
