The translator's introduction is 144 pgs. Finally the first of the stories begin. The print is tiny. Months later I come across the movie of the same name, directed by Vittorio de Sica. Italian with English subtitles. 9stories, one from each of 9 chapters. I strongly suggest you watch the movie first to set the scene. Normally not what I would do, but it was the connection I needed to get into the written version.
