Just finished I and My Chimney - it hooked me from the beginning, then got a bit weird (or i was just tired that night), then got good again; then a little, odd, then ended well. I had no idea Melville was such a masterful writer, becausthese feel very different than Moby Dick.

I’ve not read anything by Melville but I have heard that Moby Dick isn’t very reflective of his overall style and that we should be having kids read him in high school but not Moby Dick.

@Gina, that makes a lot of sense to me. High school is too short a time to be wasting on a such a long, circuitos novel, and these short stories are full of gems.
