God this book is a fucking bore.

I generally like Acemoglu’s papers and theory— I’m also an economist and have a general interest in history. But is it necessary to recount all of human history (eg detailed descriptions of dates of who took the crown of what empire blah blah blah) to illustrate your point? The insecurity and hostility against Diamond is also extremely off putting.
