I never finished this book as it was not at all what I expected it to be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of historical fiction regardless of the time period. But this book read more like somebody’s master or doctoral thesis. Lots of facts and some inferences, but dry and unengaging. No disrespect to the author who used sly and dry humor to enliven things as much as could be done. Just not my cup of tea…
