Continued from my previous update.

Maybe I'm missing the point or Yaffa's positive message in general. I still think that this was a good book. Yaffa certainly had a unique perspective about WWII while she was alive. 🙂

I liked Yaffa's story and her message of hope, but I was caught off guard about her not wanting to focus on the darkness of the Holocaust. That rubbed me the wrong way because, as I wrote in a previous update on this book, the Holocaust was hellacious and I don't see an issue with emphasizing that.

The thoughts that I wrote above are leading me to give this book a three star rating.

I enjoyed learning about Yaffa Eliach because I knew nothing about her before I read this book. Nor did I know anything about the Tower of Life exhibit at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. This book educated me and I appreciated that. 🙂

Also, I think this book discussed the Holocaust in a way that was appropriate for the targeted age demographic (grades one through three).

While I can somewhat understand Yaffa's mindset of not wanting to focus on death and darkness, I think it's crucially important to acknowledge that the Holocaust was filled with both death and darkness. That's a simple fact.

Yaffa's parents showed her how a glimmer of light can chase away the darkness.

I still struggle with being a pessimist sometimes, so I really like the idea of a little light chasing away the darkness.

This sentence/part of the book also shows that the Jewish people can be very resilient. 😉🔯

It's... different to read a kids' picture book on my Kindle, but I'm enjoying this book so far. The illustrations are gorgeous and I love that an actual photo of Yaffa was included in the book. 🙂
