☆ Z I like the way that the author writes. It resembles The Catcher in the Rye in it’s conversational cynicism, only without the insufferable pretension of a teenage boy. Not that this isn’t pretentious, of course, but it’s pretentious in a way that I’m familiar with. When is piano not? I’m fully engaged with all the characters, having only just met them, and the descriptions in this book paint such a vivid image. It’s very enjoyable to play the music pieces mentioned on my own Steinway, almost cathartic. I like listening to the pieces as I read, also. His dead wife is very much an enigma currently, looking forward to reading more come tomorrow, it’s eight am and I have not slept all night.

☆ Z I might add that I begun reading after watching The Pianist.
