1st vol. of Schrader's trilogy on life of Spartan King Leonidas. There's not much on his life, so this book seems mostly invented and a way for the author to explain different aspects of Spartan life. It concentrates on Leonidas's school years in the agoge, from admission to full Spartan citizenship. I like Schrader's bringing in the fictional family members of her other Spartan novels.
