This was a cute, but short book. Alfred's friend Joe seems a bit brash, but otherwise Alfred's friends and neighbors are wonderful. Laura's friends are pretty amazing as well. Although the Carters are more of her parents' friends, they help her decide to find a mail order husband and help her choose which man.
