Very great analysis of soviet agriculture of that period.
Soviet government had to pay for its industrialisation but did not want to provide better conditions. The productivity is very low, but it is blamed on enemies and sabotage.
This will end with the largest crime in Soviet history, but it was visible in 1928 the direction to increase amount of grain collected won't end well.

"Probably no State in the world has fewer dangerous enemies within its borders than the Soviet State, after these ten years of indefatigable “ anticipation ” conducted with every imaginable terror and violence" - written at the start of Great Purge.
