I never really noticed essence is related so closely to sum, esse, fui, futurus - hence presence, absence, essentially... The first one is a noun form of that verb, according to the book.

Whoa, metaphysics is a wacky field - no wonder scientists scoff at it so much. I'm interested in whatever this person has to say from a Classical perspective, as Aristotle on his own gives me interminable headaches, no lie.
