Is one theory enough to explain HGD? Brings to mind the ancient parable of the blind men and the elephant which illustrates that each man only sees the one part of the whole that he has personal familiarity with. So it is that attempting to apply just one theory, “an orderly, integrated set of statements that describes, explains, and predicts behavior” (p 5) is not comprehensive enough to satisfactorily “explain all.

The author, in chapter three has wonderfully detailed the anatomy and physiology related to fetal capacities and behavior. Something as basic as talking to, reading stories, and playing music for the developing baby. Will create an environment in which the baby will become familiarized with the parents (hopefully) soothing voices.
