Overall, this is a story I like more on each re-read. The writing is sharp and funny, the content is equally cras and thoughtful while being a minefield of literary references and allegories blended with the expansive setting of the Hegemony. The Poets tale is a slightly pretentious victory. 5/5

Soldier's Tale: Ecstasy of Violence.

Like, I don’t know how else to explain: but the over-the-top absurdity of the Hyper Violence: Totally works for me. It’s not as strong as the Priests tale – no question. In fact, it’s a complete miss for many, but somehow it threads a needle just for me. 5/5

Priests Tale
This still remains one of my favourite pieces of writing ever. Arguably more so coming back to it wiser and more experienced. The prose is sharp and the characters defined, but most of all it's utterly horrific.
Entire novels wish they could make me feel like this section does, and it shakes me to my core multiple times, when some series struggle to do it once.
5/5 nearly flawless.

Leon Markham I really enjoyed the first reading - the reveal of how the interdimensional travel worked really blew my mind. Rereading it felt a little self indulgent…maybe I need to give it a third go. How do you like the sequels?

Harry There is absolutely a self indulgence, however I enjoy the confidence in the work which that self indulgence brings.

I adore Fall of Hyperion. Feels like the second half of Hyperions first. The latter two books, less a fan. There is a quality drop and things become more self involved and less well constructed.
