The theme is that people have to struggle a lot to make a better life it does not come easily and with out you work hard for it. The message the author is trying to get across is that sometime your families is not there to help you, but never give up keep tying until you succeed. Anyway people will be successful when they face the challenges and work for it.

TYRELL WAS ABLE TO HELP HIS FAMILIES OUT OF SHULTER, BUT HIS BROTHER IS AT FOSTER CARE BECAUSE HIS MOM LEFT HIM ALONE IN THE HOUSE AND HIS FATHER IS OUT OF PRISON WILL LIFE FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILIES WILL BECOME BETTER OR WORST? Tyrell is the character who intelligent harder worker but I don't know why he does not like school. I think for him school is not that important for him because his is a kid who turn into men in the earlier age he have to make money to take care of his families because his father is in the jail.
