This book came highly recommended. So far it's a bit heavy going as it slides back and forth in time through several generations of family dramas. A lot to keep track of.
It is also taking time to get used to the sort of odd voice. The book is about a Yorkshire childhood and is narrated in the protagonist's voice from the time of conception (yes, conception!)

Well, Kim, I think that would take some research. But there are a lot of literary references in the book. If you follow up your curiosity, let me know.
The oddness of the voice continues as she narrates from the omniscient present, knowing what is going to happen. Yet,at the same time, since she is a child, if there is something she doesn't understand or doesn't know about because she is only a child, we don't get to know about it either!
I notice the protagonist's last name is Lennox, which is also the last name of the protagonist of The Secret Garden, which also takes place in Yorkshire...You will have to tell us if that is a coincidence!
