notes: falsely claims that japan and china were nothing short of harmonious before the first sino-japanese war, which is not true, as china failed to even recognize emperor meiji. although gives good background on the domestic state of both china and korea before the war, and is written in an easily-digestible way.

Madeleine Tassin although i feel like this author has bit off more than they can chew. so i am continuing to read for the fun of it since i enjoy this topic. the topic of the first sino-japanese war has only briefly been discussed in the western world so it is not surprising that some things are going to be half-truths or almost-truths. the author also jumps around the timeline a lot, which can be confusing, but with enough mental strength it’s palatable.
