A truly gripping story with a lot of layers. First you have the interesting backdrop of an earth on the brink of destruction, then post-scarcity and then scarcity again. The story is part the result of those events. Secondly, is the distinction between magic and science and we get that through a sci-if/fantasy mashup. Lastly, we have the effects of loneliness, unresolved feelings, and self-belief. Quite the cocktail.
