Ugh! SPOILER ALERT! The main character, a teacher who is in charge of students at the onset of the infection, told them they would not be able to visit house to check on their families because it was too dangerous. I get that. There are a large number of students and it would take a long time. But what did he do as they are on their way to safety? Oh its perfectly understandable for him to save his dog. Really????

the author's approach is interesting. The chapters swap between present time and 6 years after the outbreak. The plot is intriguing. However, that being said I am disappointed in Mr. Calen's ability to convey the emotions of the situations. I don't find myself fearing for the characters as situations begin to spin out of control. I don't share in their vistories...here's to hoping that gets better
