Rule XII in my own words: be grateful despite the suffering you experience.

Rule XI in my own words: don’t let the things that happen to you control you. Don’t allow yourself to become resentful.

Rule IX in my own words: instead of burying/ignoring/suppressing old, hurtful memories, confront them so you process them.

Rule VIII in my own words: make one room in your life as beautiful as possible. This will help “mental health” and will help give you an escape.

Rule VII in my own words: instead of blindly going about life. Focus on a goal and work towards that goal single-mindedly. Don’t let indecision allow you to live a life of no purpose.

Rule VI in my own words: abandon ideology. Do not try and simplify a complex issue into a single causation. Look at fact, not the proposed ideology separated from fact.

Rule V in my own words: do not sacrifice convictions due to fear.

Rule IV in my own words: pick up slack. Make yourself invaluable. Do the dirty work no one else wants to. Basically a more “sophisticated” wording of Mike Rowe’s philosophy.

Rule III in my own words: don’t bury and repress feelings within your relationship. Figure out what the root cause is. Don’t be afraid to have that necessary fight to prevent something worse down the road.

Rule 2 in my own words: This chapter seemed off. He didn’t really get to his point until the last page. The rest of the chapter just seemed pointless and over complicated.
