A textbook.
The first chapter is about how categories are sometimes too specific and sometimes not specific enough and there are so many possible variations of life.
It's pretty pointless to try to put everybody in one of two boxes because it's just not a true thing about life.

Chapter 5: the third sex

A short one that discusses historical alternatives to the binary system.
Plato and Aristophanes, then Ulrich's, Hirschfeld, and Freud.
Then the Kinsey scale.

One of the discussion questions at the end:
Which is more liberating - regarding sexual orientation as something one is born with or as something that develops over time? Why?

It's a binary question, which amused me.

The chapter title is Aristotelian and Judeo-Christian Models of Sex Difference.
It's difficult to think about religion and gender and how they intertwine. Also makes a lot of sense.
