Quite a good story, that one. Like Abe's Woman in the Dunes if it was Tolkien's Gollum rather than the woman.

Kipling keeps adding an apostrophe to the front of "'rickshaw," so I felt compelled to look the word up to see what it was abbreviating. Turns out the word was derived somewhat directly from Japanese, itself derived from Chinese, rather than being directly from Chinese.
