OK--I've put off writing this update for months. Kerouac is without question my favorite writer--I could read On the Road and any of his novels (and even the odd and heartbreaking Some of the Dharma) over and over, and never get tired of them, never stop finding yet more to move me in them. But I feel like some kind of heretic in having to say that I just can't get into these poems. Forgive me, dear Yack. I love you.

But my favorite line so far has to be, "Fuck is a dirty word/But it comes out clean."

"They got nothing on me/at the university/Them clever poets/of immensity/With charcoal suits/and charcoal hair/And green armpits/and heaven air.../They got nothing on me/'Cause I'm dead..."

The Pony Express finally came by and dropped it off in my mailbox. What more can I ask? I've got Kerouac, poetry, and (Kerouac's own particular brand of) Buddhism all in one beaten-up, used (as I prefer them) volume. So far, I've read only his prose, so this should be interesting.
