"Indeed, it sometimes seems that this is the structure of every urban design book ever written. They're often in three parts: the first celebrates the wonderful cities of the past. The second bemoans the problems of the present; depending on age of the book the problem might be Baroque planning, the Industrial Revolution. The third draws inspiration from the past to fix these present problems.
