Believe this work most well researched by the author, as many of the details about Charles Gordon align perfectly of many portrayals of this misunderstood Army Engineer, as he ironed out the Empire's to often insurmountable troubles about the globe. What the good General didn't touch, likely didn't require any attention whatsoever.

Brilliantly written account of one of the major players in nearly every British Conflict in the 19th Century. His early life, his schooling as an Army Engineer, the Crimean War, The Taiping Rebellion, the liberation of Sudan, and many other efforts that brought this man to the public's attention.
