A shocking part was when Prim dies.Prim and some kids were in front of the President's mansion, when they grabbed boxes falling out of the sky thinking they had something special.Instead there were bombs in the boxes."Because for just a moment,she catches sight of me, her lips form my name"(p.347).At that moment Katniss realizes that she failed to protect her sister even though she joined the games just to save her.

It was suprising when Soldier Leeg 2 died and a replacement was needed on the team. Peeta was called in, but he was brought in without any guards or manacles on his hands, but just with a gun."There's shock, confusion, resistance, but 451 is stamped on the back of Peeta's hand in fresh ink"(p.261). This was shocking because Peeta was brainwashed to kill Katniss and the others but now he will have to fight with them.

One sad part was when Peeta used the live broadcast to warn Katniss and District 13 that they would be dead by morning. As soon as Snow realized what Peeta was doing, he started to attack him in order to shut him up.. "The impact of the blow that's inseparable from Peeta's cry of pain" (p.134). Peeta endured the severe beating he knew he would get by warning them because he loves Katniss and wants to protect her.

A sad part was when they were discussing a plan if she captured. Plutarch gives Katniss a small pill that fits in a small pocket in her jacket. Taken, it would instantly and painlessly end her life so she would not be tortured for information. "We named them nightlock in your honor, Katniss"9(p.84). This shows how important Katniss is to District 13 as she has most of the information needed to destroy the Capitol.
