There is a wiser question to ask than why (why is this horrible thing happening to me)-it is HOW? “How do you want me to walk with you in this, God?” That question leads us down entirely different paths, paths that are relational and wise (p. 30). So good as I’ve asked my fair share of “why” question’s recently.

God’s primary longing for us is not for our comfort; it is for our communion (p. 116).

Jesus’ death on the cross is our supreme model when it comes to finding our identity. The cross and all it involved did not define Jesus; rather, his Father’s love for him defined him. He is his Father’s beloved son from eternity-long before he was incarnated or suffered. We too are defined by the Father’s love for us; our sufferings in this world are always seen through the lens of that identity (p. 79).
