I was prepared to fall in love with this interesting Strong Female Character™ version of Wendy everyone kept telling me about, and I find I infinitely prefer Shelley Duvall's character, who has much less information about what's going on at the hotel than her novel counterpart but frankly makes much better decisions.

Of course, I was also prepared to hate the giant living hedge animals, and those were pretty eerie. Most of the early ghost set pieces are creepy AF; King rlly knows how to endanger a (fictional) child for fun and profit.

I read the book because a friend told me similar. It's been a long time since I read it, so I don't remember particulars, but I do remember the ending and it was terrible, such a cop-out.

YEAH like the micromanaging malevolent hotel would just forget about Chekhov's boiler.
