They spend the night in the truck. An empty billboard with the panels blown out appears. The lad looks to the horizon and sees a tower. A speeding car, driven by the woman on the billboards, almost runs over them. An unbelievably tall and fantastically designed rollercoaster appears, along with houses on top of another smaller mesa. No one is in the houses. A man and the woman talk - Arrowstar is a dream for the man.

Out in the desert, they are to paint a woman and the word, "Arrowstar". What is Arrowstar? Who will see these large billboards? (The green color used for the pickup truck is beautiful.) It took 3 days for the first billboard. As the days pass, the lad wants to know why he can put in a landscape, something else on the big billboard. The painter says that's not the job. On the last one, a dust storm hits.

An unusual children's picture book about an Asian young boy on his own, an artist, and a job sign painting out in the desert. The first clue is the first illustration - a young lad on a street with dark windows in all the storefronts. One store has lights - a sign shop, with a man working inside. The boy says he can draw. A job is offered - a dozen billboards - from a man in a large white car.
