Because I'm not yet fluent in French, reading a French book is a slow process for me, even when it's a Star Trek book whose English version I've read. But I have to think it's good practice. One of my professors told me that it's better not to stop and look up every little word so that I'm forced to deduce the meaning from context. I agree, though after I've done that I still like to mark all the words I didn't know.
